First American to race in Formula 1 since 2015

Logan Sargeant became the first American to race in Formula 1 since 2015 at the FORMULA 1 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX 2023. The 22-year-old Williams Racing driver was making his debut in Formula 1 having produced several notable performances in Formula 2. He didn't look out of place amongst the elite of motor racing. Starting the race in P16, Sargeant moved quickly up to P13, passing fellow rookie driver De Vries on his way. He eventually finished P12 – an outstanding result for the debutant and a welcome return for American drivers on the grid.
