The Tampa Bay Rays top pitching prospect made his MLB debut and exceeded even the loftiest of expectations. McKay retired the first 16 hitters he faced, tossing six scoreless innings to get the win over the Rangers. McKay allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out three batters. After losing his perfect game bid with one out in the sixth inning, fans responded with a well-earned standing ovation.
