Rod Carew

AUGUST 4, 1985 — Rod Carew entered the summer matchup between the California Angels and the Minnesota Twins one hit away from the coveted 3,000 mark. The 18-time MLB All-Star would connect off of an offering from Frank Viola in the bottom of the third inning for a line-drive single to left field. 41,630 fans at Anaheim Stadium rose to their feet on contact and applauded the future Hall-of-Famer for accomplishing a feat that only 15 other big leaguers have ever conquered up until that point.
