Bill Mazeroski

Following a 12-0 New York Yankees blowout over the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 6 of the 1960 World Series, the two Clubs were set to face off in a Game 7 at Forbes Field. The back-and-forth contest resulted in a 9-9 tied ballgame headed into the bottom of the ninth inning. Bill Mazeroski led off the frame and ended the battle with one swing of the bat. The Wheeling, West Virginia product connected on a pitch delivered from Ralph Terry and sent it over the left-field wall for a walk-off blast to capture the franchise’s third World Series title.
