Gerrit Cole became the second fastest pitcher in MLB history to 1,500 strikeouts after his 12-strikeout performance against the Tampa Bay Rays. The New York Yankees ace accomplished this milestone in just his 212th Major League game, only six more than Hall-of-Famer Randy Johnson's record of 206. Cole was relentless all night, holding the Rays hitters to just four hits and no free bases. On the season, the 30-year-old has accumulated 78 strikeouts and just three walks over his 52 and 2/3 innings pitched. Gerrit has racked up 56 strikeouts since his last issued walk, a streak that has tied Curt Schilling's MLB record set in 2002.
