In the bottom of the fifth inning in the matchup between the Angels and the Boston Red Sox, Shohei Ohtani drove an Eduardo Rodriguez slider well into the right-field seats for his 32nd home run of the year. With this longball, he surpassed Hideki Matsui for the most home runs in a single season for a Japanese-born player. Matsui clubbed 31 homers in his 2004 MLB All-Star season with the New York Yankees.
