The 25-year-old from Cabimas, Venezuela, found his early success through his mid-90-mph heater and devastating changeup. Prior to López's effort, Germán Márquez (2018), Jacob deGrom (2014) and Jim Deshaies (1986) were tied for the MLB record with eight consecutive strikeouts to start a game.
