Ty Cobb

MAY 31, 1925 — Ty Cobb headed into this afternoon matchup against the Cleveland Indians sitting at 999 career extra-base hits. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Cobb smacked a triple to right field off of Cleveland’s George Uhle. This knock marked Ty’s 275th career triple and made him the first player in MLB history to reach 1,000 career extra-base hits. Despite his 2-for-5, two-RBI effort, the Tigers would go on to lose, 6-4.
