The New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves both entered game one of their two-game interleague series on a nine-game winning streak. It was the first time in the Modern era (since 1901) where two clubs entered a matchup both owning nine-game winning streaks. The Bronx Bombers rode a 2-for-3, 3-RBI night from Giancarlo Stanton to take the series opener, 5-1, and extend their win-streak to ten. The Yankees entered the second half of the season two games over .500 and are now 21 games over .500 (73-52).
