Max Scherzer led the way for the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres with a historical performance on the mound. The three-time Cy Young Award winner scattered one hit over eight scoreless frames and struck out nine batters. Scherzer retired the first 22 batters of the contest and fired an immaculate inning in the process, marking the third of his career. The 37-year-old reached 3,000 career strikeouts in the top of the fifth inning when he got Eric Hosmer down swinging. With this effort, Max became the second fastest pitcher to 3,000 strikeouts (2,516 IP) and the 19th pitcher in MLB history to reach the mark altogether.
