JUNE 28, 2009 — Before he joined Trevor Hoffman as the only other closer in MLB history to reach 500 career saves, Mariano Rivera took care of business at the plate. With the game being hosted by the crosstown-rival Mets, "The Sandman" grabbed a bat in the top of the ninth inning with the bases loaded. The 39-year-old worked a full count and drew a walk with the bases loaded for his first career RBI to extend the Yankees lead to 4-2. In the ensuing frame, Rivera slammed the door to reach the five-century save mark and complete the Subway Series sweep.
