Andy Pettite

JULY 1, 2013 — In the bottom of the fifth inning at Target Field, Andy Pettitte reached the top of the Yankees record books after striking out Justin Morneau with a 90-mph heater. The punchout marked his 1,958th as a Yankees pitcher and moved Pettitte ahead of fellow southpaw Whitey Ford. Postgame, Pettitte was quoted saying, “I feel very fortunate to be able to be around as long as I have, and to be able to be mentioned with Whitey’s name is obviously always an honor.”
