The milestone home run was sent deep in the ninth inning of an interleague contest between his New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox and was hit off Red Sox hurler Derek Lowe. The fans at Shea Stadium were jubilant, despite being down two runs, chanting Piazza's last name as he made his trip around the bases.
