On this day, Tony Pérez made his Major League Baseball debut in a contest between his Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. His debut wasn’t reflective of the hitting tour de force Pérez would eventually become, as he was walked in his first at-bat, and finished the day going 0-for-2 at the plate. Little did Reds fans know then, but eventually, Pérez would be a key ingredient in the Club’s recipe for success they enjoyed for many years to come.
