The San Diego Padres took home their very first National League Championship Series victory after beating the Chicago Cubs in the fifth and final contest of the series. Interestingly, this series was the final NLCS to be held in the best-of-five format, and more famously, saw the Padres win three consecutive games to come back and best the Cubs. After the conclusion of the series, Padres first baseman Steve Garvey was crowned the series MVP, but key pitching performances from Rich “Goose” Gossage also helped the Club get over the line.
