Victory in Spain to take championship lead

Max Verstappen won an emphatic victory at the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2022 to take the lead in the World Championship. The Dutchman had started the race in P2 behind Charles Leclerc who was expected to repeat his fantastic performance in qualifying. Indeed Leclerc led from the start with Verstappen battling through DRS problems. However, the Ferrari driver retired due to power unit issues giving Verstappen the opportunity to go for the win. With teammate Sergio Perez in the lead, Verstappen kept up the pace and overtook the Mexican finally winning the race by 13 seconds. He takes a six point championship lead over Leclerc going into the next round in Monaco.
