Darryl Strawberry proved himself to be indispensable to the New York Mets throughout much of the 1980s, and the first hit of his Major League Baseball came during a game against the Cincinnati Reds. In the eighth inning, Strawberry connected with a pitch from Reds hurler Ben Hayes, sending the ball to left field, also tallying his first MLB RBI.
