Scherzer’s final strikeout of his six-inning performance marked the 3,118th of his career, pushing him past two legends: Curt Schilling and Bob Gibson. In a post-game interview, Scherzer noted that Gibson was his father’s favorite player, and vowed to gift his dad with the very ball he used to break his record.
