Kevin Newman delivered a clutch two-run single in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Pirates to a 4-2 victory over the Reds on June 18. The hit came off Reds reliever Alex Blandino, capping off a late-game rally that saw Newman come through with the go-ahead RBI. Newman, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner in the seventh, stayed in as the designated hitter and made the most of his opportunity at the plate. The Pirates improved to 32-30 with the win, while the Reds fell to 29-33.
