Ricky Karcher was thrown into the fire Monday night against the Kansas City Royals, getting the relief call in the tenth inning. The pressure-packed situation did not affect the Cincinnati Reds hurler, who successfully protected the team’s one-run lead, leading to a 5-4 victory. Karcher’s win also lands him in the history books, becoming the first Reds player since the save became an official stat in 1969 to record a save in his MLB debut.
