Masataka Yoshida made his MLB debut on Opening Day, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and a walk in the Red Sox's 6-1 victory over the Orioles on March 30 at Fenway Park. The 29-year-old rookie became the first Japanese-born position player to homer in his first career game since Hideki Okajima in 2007. Yoshida's first big league hit came off Baltimore starter Kyle Gibson.
