Monegasque hero wins home grand prix

Hometown hero Charles Leclerc claimed victory at Monte Carlo 2024. The Monegasque driver had never won his home race before nor had he even appeared on the podium. All that was to change in Sunday's race. Starting the race in P1 after a brilliant qualifying session, Leclerc produced a masterful performance. He led from start-to-finish, despite an early red flag, and held off the challenge from Oscar Piastri in P2. It was a long-awaited and emotional home win for Leclerc whose boyhood memories of watching previous F1 events in Monte Carlo spurred his early interest in the sport.
