Having gone deep earlier in the game, the 21-year-old put on his home run shoes for another to knot things up in the ninth inning. It marks the third time this season that Merrill has recorded a game-tying or walk-off homer in the ninth inning, giving him the most such hits in MLB. His big night at the plate was surely appreciated as it gave the Padres their sixth straight series win.
