Nomar Garciaparra

SEPTEMBER 9, 1997 — Nomar Garciaparra made his mark as the most effective run-producer in the leadoff spot in 1997. The shortstop set the MLB record for most RBI from the top of the order when he drove in his 86th and 87th runs of the season against the Yankees. To this point, Garciaparra had an incredible .309 batting average and 26 home runs from the top of the Red Sox lineup.
