SEPTEMBER 10, 1974 — Lou Brock was a stolen base away from tying the MLB, single-season record for most swiped bags entering the game against the Phillies. Brock wasted no time matching the record with his 104th swipe of the year in the first inning. However, the speedy outfielder was not finished there. Brock stole second base again to break the MLB record with his 105th stolen base of the season.
