SEPTEMBER 23, 199 8 — Already with 51 doubles on the season, Craig Biggio became the first player since 1912 to also steal at least 50 bases in a season. Biggio combined a remarkable ability to launch extra-base hits with a tremendous baserunning prowess in a stellar 1998 campaign. Biggio also had a .328 batting average and a solid .405 on-base percentage through his record-setting game.
