Satchel Paige

SEPTEMBER 25, 1965 — In an effort to boost attendance, Kansas City Athletics owner Charlie Finley hosted Satchel Paige for an honorary Satchel Paige Night at the stadium. He promised that Paige, nearing 60-years-old, would actually appear in the game. Sure enough, the legendary pitcher did just that. Paige became the oldest player to pitch in MLB history and looked as dominant as usual. Paige fired three scoreless frames against a dangerous Red Sox lineup, striking out one batter and allowing just one hit.
