OCTOBER 22, 1972 — Catfish Hunter gave the Oakland Athletics two and 2/3 shutout innings out of the bullpen in Game 7 of the 1972 World Series. Hunter struck out three batters and kept the Reds in check long enough for the Oakland Athletics to take the lead in an eventual 3-2, World Series clinching victory. Hunter's impressive effort earned him the win in the decisive game.
