After a decorated nine-year career overseas in Japan, Ichiro Suzuki made his highly anticipated MLB debut as the Mariners played host to AL West rivals, the Oakland Athletics. The 27-year old outfielder proved to be up for the challenge, batting leadoff and collecting his first two career hits while scoring a seventh-inning run as Seattle began its comeback en route to a 5-4 victory.
