Through seven innings of Saturday night's contest versus the Nationals, the Orioles had mustered just three hits and were looking up at a 3-0 deficit. Leading off the top of the eighth, pinch hitter Pat Valaika sent Sean Doolittle's 1-1 offering over the left field wall to make it a 3-1 game. On the very next pitch, pinch hitter Pedro Severino crushed a home run to deep left, igniting an Orioles lineup that went on to score three more runs and win 5-3 in comeback fashion.
