Mickey Mantle

Game 3 of the 1964 World Series was heavily dominated by pitching, as hurlers Curt Simmons of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Jim Bouton of the New York Yankees guided a 1-1 game into the ninth inning. Mickey Mantle was set to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning with a chance to win the game with one swing of the bat. The “Commerce Comet” connected on a pitch delivered from reliever Barney Schultz and sent it to deep right field for a walk-off home run. This blast gave the Bronx Bombers a two-games-to-one advantage in the series.
