After going 5-for-5 the previous game, Yermin Mercedes collected hits in his first three at-bats Saturday against Alex Cobb to give him an 8-for-8 start to the season. Mercedes became the first player in the modern era to start a season with eight consecutive hits. His first hit of the game was a solo home run in the second, which also marked his first career home run.
