Shohei Ohtani made his first start on the mound this season while also being slated in the 2-hole of the lineup, making it the first time in his MLB career that he was hitting and pitching in the same game. This also makes him the first starting pitcher to bat second in a game since Jack Dunleavy in 1903. Over the course of the first inning, Ohtani delivered a pitch at 101 mph and hit a homer with an exit velocity of 115.2 mph. He now has the hardest pitch thrown for a starting pitcher and hardest ball hit by any player in the young 2021 season.
