Willie Mays passed Mel Ott for most home runs in National League history when he struck his 512th homer early in the 1966 season. The passing of the torch took place on a spring day at Candlestick Park, where Willie Mays and the San Francisco Giants squared off against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mays took the NL All-Star Claude Osteen deep for his record-breaking home run in his third at-bat of the contest.
