The Pittsburgh Pirates number three overall prospect, Oneil Cruz, made his MLB debut in the matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. The 6-foot-7 shortstop collected his first hit and RBI with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cruz would follow up in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 118.2-mph knock for his second hit of the contest. Oneil would finish his stellar League inauguration going 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and a sole RBI.
