As far as throwing no-hitters goes, there's close, and then there's heartbreakingly close; the latter applies to St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas, who came within just one strike of throwing a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader between his Club and the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. Over the course of Mikolas' eight and two thirds innings stint on the mound, he whiffed six Pirates batters and walked just one. Despite letting up the hit at the very end, Mikolas' performance was remarkable, and helped his Club defeat the Pirates, 9-1.
