Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele has quietly put one of the top National League pitching campaigns in 2023. The hurler continued his National League Cy Young Award case with Monday’s outing, punching out a career-high 12 batters in a two-hit, eight-inning shutout over the San Francisco Giants. The Mississippi native joins a short list of Cubs left-handers, Hippo Vaughn (1918), Ken Holtzman (1971), and Jon Lester (2015), to rack up a dozen strikeouts or more in a game at Wrigley Field. The 28-year-old is now 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA and 40 whiffs in his last five starts.
