Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz marked his return to racing in style by winning the FORMULA 1 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2024 with an impressive driving display in Melbourne. The Spanish driver, who missed the last race due to having surgery on his appendix, made a triumphant return to claim the third Formula 1® race victory of his career. Sainz qualified in P2 and made an electric start to the race, claiming the lead from Max Verstappen on the second lap. The Spaniard controlled the race from there, demonstrating his experience and exceptional driving ability to secure his first race win when not starting from pole position. He also became the first driver to win his first race on return from an injury/medical absence since Gerhard Berger in 1997.
