Paul Skenes continued his standout 2024 campaign against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie struck out nine batters over five shutout innings en route to a 2-0 victory. With his ERA dipping to 1.99, Skenes is the first pitcher in the Modern Era (since 1901) with 150 punchouts and an ERA under 2.00 in his first 22 career games. It’s also the second-lowest ERA through 22 career starts since the earned run became an official stat in 1913, behind Steve Rogers in 1973-74.
