Mike Mussina

Mike Mussina became the first pitcher in MLB history to win 20 games in a season in which he did not start a single game. On September 16, 2006, Mussina pitched a perfect eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox, closing out a 12-4 Yankees win. Mussina entered the game in relief of Randy Johnson with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth. Mussina struck out David Ortiz to end the inning and retired the side in order. Mussina finished the season with a 15-7 record and a 3.51 ERA in 34 starts and 5 relief appearances.
