APRIL 16, 1940 — The wins leader of the AL the past two seasons had a historic victory to begin the Indians 1940 season. “Rapid Robert” no-hit the Chicago White Sox, 1-0, become the first pitcher ever to throw a no-hitter on Opening Day. Feller struck out eight and got his one-run lead off a Rollie Hemsley triple in the fourth inning that scored Jeff Heath.
