Roger Clemens

APRIL 29, 1986 — Roger Clemens, a hard-throwing right-hander, took the mound at Fenway Park and immediately set the tone for what would be a historic game by striking out the side in the first inning. Clemens continued to dominate, racking up 18 punch outs before entering the final frame, merely two strikeouts away from setting an MLB record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game. Clemens retired Spike Owen swinging and sent Phil Bradley down looking to secure the new MLB record with 20 strikeouts.
