APRIL 30, 1961 — Willie Mays gave the San Francisco Giants an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run, setting the pace for a remarkable game. When Hank Aaron responded with a three-run blast in the bottom half of the inning, Mays answered with a two-run shot in the third inning. The athletic center fielder continued his barrage of towering homers with blasts in the sixth and the eighth innings, becoming the ninth player in MLB history to club four home runs in a single game.
