Babe Ruth

AUGUST 11, 1929 — In the matchup between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians, Babe Ruth became the first player in MLB history to reach the 500 home run mark as he took Willis Hundin deep in the second inning at League Park. Prior to the game, the “Sultan of Swat” predicted he would accomplish this otherworldly feat and was quoted saying, “Listen, I’m going to hit No. 500 today and I tell you what I wish you’d do. I wish you’d find the kid who gets the ball and bring him to me. I’d kinda like to save that one.”
