APRIL 19, 1997 — Playing in what was dubbed the “Paradise Series,” the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres faced off in the first ever MLB game played in the state of Hawaii. The Saturday doubleheader took place at Aloha Stadium on the island of Oahu, typically used for University of Hawaii football games, but had been used for Triple-A baseball by the Hawaii Islanders from 1976 to 1987. The Cardinals swept, winning 1-0 and 2-1, respectively.
