The New York Yankees turned a triple play to close out the 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics. With runners on first base and second base, the triple play began with a 98-mph fastball delivered from Aroldis Chapman to Sean Murphy. Murphy sharply hit it to third base where Gio Urshela promptly fielded the ball, stepped on third and fired it to DJ LeMahieu standing on second base. LeMahieu then quickly threw it over to the outstretched Chris Gittens to complete the around-the-horn triple play. This marks the Yankees third triple play of 2021, which is tied with the 2016 Chicago White Sox for the most in a single season in MLB history.
