Sean Manaea set the tone for the Oakland Athletics 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners with a brilliant performance on the mound. The Valparaiso, Indiana, southpaw scattered three hits over seven strong innings of one-run ball and fanned a career-high 13 batters. Manaea relied on his deadly fastball-slider combo early in the game and would go on to retire 18 of the first 23 batters faced. With this effort, Sean became the first Athletics pitcher to tally 13-plus strikeouts with one or fewer runs allowed since Todd Stottlemyre in 1995.
