APRIL 8, 1974 — After tying Babe Ruth on Opening Day of the 1974 season, Hammerin' Hank broke the Great Bambino's record in front of a sellout crowd at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. Aaron deposited a 1-0 fastball from Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Al Downing over the left-center-field fence, and rounded the bases as the new home run king.
