The milestone longball was belted in a contest between Ruth's New York Yankees and the St. Louis Browns, when Browns hurler George Blaeholder threw Ruth an irresistible pitch in the third inning. Incredibly, at the time, Ruth's all-time home runs lead was more than double the number two all-time slugger in the League: Rogers Hornsby with 293.
