MAY 31, 1938 — Lou Gehrig’s 2,000th consecutive game was nothing short of spectacular. In the eighth inning of a contest between his New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, the humble Yankees first baseman recorded an RBI single. The Yankees won the game, 12-5, and Gehrig’s streak would continue for another 130 games, remaining unbroken until 1995.
